The Archdiocese of Toronto takes every allegation of misconduct or abuse seriously. This page explains how to report one.
Misconduct or abuse by a priest, lay employee or volunteer
A victim of any crime is encouraged to contact their local police service. If a credible allegation of abuse against a minor is reported to the Archdiocese of Toronto, the Archdiocese contacts the appropriate civil authorities within one hour, or as soon as circumstances permit.
A confidential allegation of abuse or misconduct can be made directly to the Archdiocese by calling 1-888-286-1463 or by e-mailing reportmisconduct@archtoronto.org. Clergy and staff of the Archdiocese can also pass a complaint to the Archbishop’s Delegate.
The Archdiocese’s first concerns are the care of the complainant and the prevention of abuse and misconduct. Coming forward is difficult; the person who first hears a complaint will treat the complainant with care and compassion, encourage them to speak with the Archbishop’s Delegate, and respect their right to privacy and confidentiality.
Misconduct or abuse by a Canadian bishop
A national, bilingual service for reporting allegations of sexual abuse committed or covered up by a Catholic bishop (living or retired) has been in place since May 2021. Dioceses in Ontario are also required to contact the police if a minor is at risk or the allegation involves a child aged 18 or under.
